Where are you originally from?
I was born in Wisconsin, raised in various states of the South and Midwest, and moved to San Diego with my folks when I was 15. I started college in Santa Cruz and then moved here when I was 25, after dropping out.
What made you move to San Francisco?
I'm a nymphromaniac.
Who are you and what are you all about?
I'm an actor, writer, filmmaker, and an aspiring musician. I like science fiction and horror movies and anything strange, depressing, silly, and haunting. I like books a lot and read whenever I can, although mostly it's just school stuff now because that's all I have time for. Right now I'm a creative writing major at SF State, and I am finally graduating this year!! It's about time.
Do you sing live also?
I only sing live, because I suck at lip-synching. Am I still a drag queen?
What made you start drag?
After producing and directing flicks like "Imp of Satan" (2007), and "Tweaker with an Axe" (2009) for Synchronium Films, I thought I should probably get a respectable job. When being a coke-whore didn't work out, I tried drag. When that didn't work out...oh wait.
How long have you been doing drag?
You mean intentionally? I get dressed in the dark a lot...
Who are your Influences?
My mom, Suppositori Spelling. And my other mom, Epiphany. Yes, I have two mommies. Sometimes I feel like it's just one mommy with two heads, but that's crazy, right? Don't answer that.
Suppositori has been a tremendous influence recently, as far as style and attitude.
We're good friends and we perform together a lot, at Pink Slip (my show on Tuesdays at The Stud) and Cocktailgate (her show, Sundays at Truck). She's basically everything I could want in a mother: she lends me clothes, gives me clothes and wigs, always gives me honest and useful criticism, and lets me pass out half-naked on her floor with food on my face. She's the best!
Epiphany was the first to encourage me toward drag. We went to high school together and have been good friends ever since. She moved to New York several years ago and started doing shows with Sherry Vine, Acid Betty, and Miss Understood...one year I came out to visit her and she took me to the Glammy Awards, and that's pretty much when the bug bit me. The scene in New York is really inspiring...but I'm comfortable here, for now.
What is the next for project for you?
A drag version of David Lynch's "Inland Empire". I want to make a movie, like he did, where the script develops during the shooting.
I'm also planning on trying to get more writing published - I just got my first publication, in the SF State literary journal "Transfer", and it's inspired me to send in more submissions to different magazines. I want to apply for an MFA program at State, and that means getting a good portfolio together; it would be nice to include stuff that's published!
How did you come up with your name?
"The Virgin Suicides" - a good movie, but a phenomenal book. Everyone should read it.
Favorite song?
"Feeling Without Touching" by Glass Candy. Or anything by Glass Candy.
Favorite movie?
All of David Lynch's films are brilliant.
Favorite drink?
Vodka Soda
Favorite dish?
I've been making killer spaghetti lately.
Favorite celebrity?
Sascha Baron Cohen - he's such a total dick, but in a great way.
What tips can you give to future Divas?
Research, teach yourself things, and listen to people. Do what you want to do, your own way, but also be prepared to change if some good advice comes along. There is rarely any good advice.
Your favorite Motto?
"Remember: When You Eat, You're Just a Vacuum with Nipples."
Cheers,
Virginia Suicide
