Where The Boys Are!
TobyGo.com
Who Is Who

Where are you originally from?
I was born in Minas Gerais, Brasil.

What made you move to San Francisco?
I grew up between San Francisco and Brasil, so the bay area has always been home to me!

Tell us more about yourself?
I'm a singer and dancer. I write original urban pop and electronica music, and perform my own choreography with backup dancers and all! I'm excited to announce that my first single, "Fun Boyz" will be releasing web-wide on November 20th. I feel really blessed to have just returned from my second European tour after a U.S. tour this summer.

What made you start your Promotions?
The people around me encouraging me to develop my talent and grow were always those I looked to as I was starting out, so i'm very grateful to my teachers, and especially to my fans. You can become a fan through my Facebook fan page (artist.to/KIDAKIMBOfan) or through my website, KIDAKIMBO.com.

How long have you been doing your Promotions?
I've been singing for about 11 years, and dancing for about 9. When I saw it out aloud it sounds like a long time, but there's so much to learn. I have so much room to grow!

Who are your influences?
Michael Jackson would definitely be number one. Besides his sheer talent, I love that he is so multi-faceted as a singer, dancer, choreographer, and composer. I also do all of those things, and it's inspiring to see someone like Michael do them so flawlessly on all levels. I aspire to that.
Besides Michael, I think MIA is tops. The Dream, Lykke Li, and my friend, Ledisi, are also influences, or folks I try and keep a close eye on today.

What is next for your Promotions?
Besides my single releasing on November 20th, I just got word that I will be collaborating with Michael Jackson's choreographer, Kenneth Still, on the Outmusic awards in New York this December. This is an incredible opportunity and a dream come true for me. I'll be the Dance Director and Production Assistant to the incredible not-so-underground-anymore artist, Jasper James, and working closely with MJ's choreographer. Who knows what could happen after that. The sky's the limit.

Favorite song?
Oh god, what a question! I maintain that "Like a Prayer" is one of the most brilliantly arranged and executed songs of the last century. Today, I think Mariah Carey's new album "Memoirs..." is her first real comeback. And I'm so glad to see her flourishing again.

Favorite movie?
It's a three-way tie: "The Fifth Element," "Princess Mononoke" and "Heaven" by Tom Tykwer

Favorite drink?
Bubble tea. I'm addicted!

Favorite dish?
I could probably be stranded on a desert island with nothing but pad thai for a good while and do just fine.

Favorite celebrity?
Tracy Chapman has always been an inspiration to me, not only for her divine music, but also her grounded presence and commitment to activism.

What tips can you give to future Promoters?
Be creative. Be bold. There's so much homogeneity in the world today, and it seems to be strangling the gay scene in particular. That's what I talk about in my single "Fun Boyz." Don't buy in to all that. Do your best to listen to your heart and make something that YOU feel is worthwhile.

Your favorite Motto?
Let your passion guide you. It's your life; Do your best to do what you love everyday. It can be a struggle to listen to that voice inside--but make it happen!
